One act ballet Music – Johann Sebastian Bach Choreography – George Balanchine George Balanchine's Concerto Barocco to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach is the standard of a plotless neoclassical ballet and most accurately expresses creative choreographer's credo: “see the music and hear the dance”. This ballet reflects all the characteristic features of Balanchine's style: plotlessness, exquisite geometric dance pattern, the leading role of one or more ballerinas, auxiliary male part, emphasis on the female corps de ballet. Two violins and a string orchestra of the Concert on stage correspond to a part of two ballerinas and a female corps de ballet of eight dancers. In "Concerto Barocco" Balanchine first brought dancers to the stage in laconic light dresses that resemble rehearsal uniforms. Such costumes of ballerinas became a hallmark of his productions. The ballet was prepared in collaboration with the George Balanchine Trust and performed in accordance with the standards of style and technique. Premiered on 4 October 2019. Duration: 20 min
