The Astana Ballet Theatre stage features the ballet Touch the Light, choreographed by Ilya Jivoy, a renowned inventor of the unusual plasticity of modern ballets. The production’s highlight is undoubtedly the calligraphy by the most renowned calligrapher of our era, Pokras Lampas. The artist manually visualised the dance movements and projected calligraphy onto a screen in synchronisation with the choreography and Philip Glass’s music.
Touch the Light is a performance that brings together music, fashion, street art, calligraphy and neoclassical dance. Six dancers push themselves to their limits to tell a moving and powerful story about inner light, the soul and finding yourself in this world.
“There is a light inside each of us. This fire is given to us by the universe – it is an invaluable gift that can excite hearts, shape destinies, and work wonders. Whether it is just a small spark or an all-consuming flame, it does not matter if you decide to touch it...”
“A Fuego Lento”
Music by Lalo Schifrin, Astor Piazzolla, Carlos Gardel, Sayo Kosugi Idea, Choreography and Costumes by Ricardo Amarante
The ballet is an exploration of the initial emotions experienced when falling in love and being desired. The feeling of increasing heat and emotional intensity is definitely burning from the inside out. “A Fuego Lento” is all about passion, with the tempting rhythms of a sensual tango wrapping everything up.
