The choreographic interpretation of Georges Bizet’s renowned opera “Carmen” was created expressly for the illustrious Maya Plisetskaya. The musical transcription on the themes of the opera was composed by Rodion Shchedrin, who worked on the score with great fervour. He attained true virtuosity in conveying the most subtle psychological nuances of the great opera and the novella by Prosper Mérimée through music. Thanks to the extraordinary choreography of Cuban choreographer Alberto Alonso, which brilliantly conveys the feelings and aspirations of the characters, “Carmen Suite” has become a favourite ballet for many admirers of dance art and has become a regular on the best theatre stages.
