“Bolero X” is a large-scale production of modern dance choreographed by the Israeli artist Shahar Binyamini. This is a reinterpretation of the iconic “Bolero” by Maurice Ravel, in which the hypnotic rhythm and the gradual crescendo are transformed into a powerful bodily ritual.
Through the medium of repetition and collective movement, approximately 50 dancers explore the concept of group energy, the unity and interaction of the individual with the common whole. The choreography mirrors the musical structure of the piece, evoking a sense of continuous breathing and increasing tension.
The “X” in the title has been interpreted as a symbol of multiplication or crossing points – where past and present, individual and collective, music and movement intersect.

The ballet is inspired by the extraordinary life and delightful music of the French singer Edith Piaf. Each duet gives rise to feelings of tremulous love, then the fear of indifference and, finally, the tragedy of loss. Her music was a complete reflection of her fate. The song “the Hymn of Love” tells of the feelings that she, like everyone else, experiences at the beginning of the nascent relationship. Over time, most of her songs reveal the difficulties in relationships. An example of this was a fascinating interpretation of Do not abandon me. And one of the strongest feelings that any of us can experience with the loss of a loved one is expressed in the song My God. Born after the sudden death of the singer’s beloved, the song, like a mirror of her soul, reflects the depth of the tragedy that befell this great love story.

One of the most renowned works by Czech choreographer Jiří Kylián, featured in the “Black & White Ballets” programme, which has been performed on the world’s leading stages for more than 30 years. Prestigious theatres compete for the opportunity to include Kylián’s works in their repertoires, while every dancer dreams of performing his choreography at least once.
The symbiosis of Jiří Kylian’s choreography and Stephen Reich’s drum composition resulted in a delightful flight of eight ballerinas. The choreographer himself says the following words about his ballet: “Falling Angels is a ballet about our profession.” It is worth noting that his work is distinguished by extraordinary musicality, monochrome aesthetics, and world-class level of performance. Kylian’s ballet is a whirlwind of emotions: it gives shivers from sensuality and amazing plasticity.
