On March 12-13, the “Walpurgis Night” returns to the stage of the “Astana Ballet” Theater, staged by the Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Heorhii Kovtun. The one-act ballet, in which the characters of the myths of Ancient Greece will come to life, is distinguished by a bright plastic language, expressive music and colorful scenography.
Heorhii Kovtun has staged about 300 ballets and choreographic pieces for many stages in Russia and Ukraine, including the Mariinsky and Mikhailovsky Theaters, as well as the A. Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet.
“All ballet art, the Renaissance, it all began in Ancient Greece. Therefore, I wanted this theater to start from Ancient Greece, because the “Walpurgis Night” is the first performance that was staged on the new stage of the theater in March 2017”, - said choreographer Heorhii Kovtun.
The “Walpurgis Night” was created in the best traditions of classical ballet. According to the choreographer, the main emphasis in the production is directed at the action itself, the continuity of everything that happens on the stage. The choreography, full of dizzying jumps and pirouettes, is complicated by the presence of acrobatic supports and without five minutes of circus tricks, because some of the characters will literally fly on stage.
“The set design of the play is designed in a fabulous style with rich decor and an abundance of objects. There are a lot of colorful characters - Dionysus, Zagreus, Menada, nymphs, bacchantes, cupids. To create these images, not only colorful costumes are required, but also labor-consuming make-up that changes the appearance of the artists beyond recognition”, - said the Deputy director of manufacturing-technical and production part Mussabekov Dyussembay.
Also in the program of the evening will be presented a one-act ballet by the guest choreographer of the theater Ricardo Amarante - "GAIA", created especially for the "Astana Ballet" in 2016. Ballet in the neoclassical style, in which the viewer is immersed in a complex but exciting world of natural elements. The "Gaia" is a bright, poignant story about planet Earth, told in the language of modern choreography.
The events will be held with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
