The “Astana Ballet” Theater: What to see in February

The February playbill of the metropolitan theater "Astana Ballet" is full of a variety of performances for any taste. Until the end of the month, the collective will present several programs, which will include both classical and neoclassical, as well as modern productions.

On February 12-13, an evening of one-act ballets will take place on the theater stage. The program includes works by the Brazilian choreographer Ricardo Amarante "Longing" and "Love Fear Loss", as well as a production by David Jonathan "Instinct". The world premiere of the ballets "Longing" and "Instinct" took place in the capital's theater in October last year and received a lot of positive feedback from the spectators because in their works the choreographers raise the topic of searching for a soulmate, unbearable longing in separation and the place of love in our life.

On February 19-20, viewers will see the long-awaited show of the famous ballet by Yuri Grigorovich "The Legend of Love", accompanied by a symphony orchestra led by maestro Arman Urazgaliyev. The ballet, which became a cult immediately after its birth, earned its creator the fame of a man ahead of his time. "The Legend of Love" is called a ballet at the limit of possibilities: the most complicated technique and deep psychologism of images require a high level of skill from the artists.

On February 27-28, another evening of one-act ballets will take place, but this time three ballets will be presented to the capital's audience: “Serenade” by George Balanchine, “Diversity” by Ricardo Amarante, and “Triumph” by Ainur Abilgazina. Spectators have a unique opportunity to learn the history of the development of one of the finest arts on the planet, see a plastic story about the birth of ballet art in the Western Hemisphere and enjoy the triumph of classical dance, which cannot leave anyone indifferent.

“It is gratifying to see that the pandemic has not extinguished public interest in high art. We are happy that today we can work, present our performances to the public, albeit for a limited number of people. Our artists continue to give their best on stage with full dedication and, surprisingly, the ovation at the end of the performance sounds as loud as if we were performing in a full seat. Of course, we understand the full responsibility of accepting spectators in our theater. Therefore, we very carefully follow all the instructions of the chief sanitary doctor about social distance, disinfection of premises, wearing masks and many other rules that have become an integral part of the new reality. All these are trifles compared to the fact that we can meet spectators within the walls of our theater and work at such a high tempo. This, in turn, has a positive effect on the artists and the variety of our posters”, - shared the director of the “Astana Ballet” Theater Alexandr Sovostyanov.

By the way, in March, the capital's audience will see even more events dedicated to the upcoming holidays: “Ballet Stars’ Gala” for International Women's Day, “National Ballet Evening” on the eve of Nauryz, as well as the return to the stage of such performances as “Walpurgis Night” and "GAIA".
