The fairytale ballet “Ot Kyz” at Astana Ballet

On March 2, “Astana Ballet” will again present to the audience the bright premiere of the XI theatrical season - the ballet “Ot Kyz” choreographed by Mukaram Avakhri to the music of Karina Abdullina, the author of the libretto was Bakhyt Kairbekov. The performance will be accompanied by the theater's symphony orchestra under the direction of chief conductor Arman Urazgaliyev.

“When we decided to stage a children’s play based on Kazakh myths and legends, Bakhyt Kairbekov literally outlined the plot of a fairy tale about an emerald blade of grass, Princess Ot, who with her extraordinary strength overcomes all the blows of the elements and fate, representing a symbol of the vitality of the nomadic people,” Mukaram Avakhri shared her memories of the birth of this idea.

The plot of the ballet tells the story of a story that took place in the country of Tall Grasses, where the brave young man Mergen, together with the young and kind princess Ot and her parents, the sun goddess Kunsulu and father Tengri, saved the earth from the flood and freezing, from the evil intentions of the Snake-headed Zhut. As in any fairy tale, good ultimately defeats evil, revealing to the viewer a wonderful world of virtue and magic.

“This is the second work of composer Karina Abdullina in our theater, and here there was a more difficult task - to create a musical score that would reveal portraits of characters with vivid characteristics, as well as the main themes of the production. The music of the ballet turned out to be truly picturesque, national themes are clearly audible in it, it is distinguished by rhythm and simplicity of memorable melodies,” notes the artistic director of the theater Nurlan Kanetov.

The set design of the ballet turned out to be colorful, modern, with many interesting technical and multimedia solutions, and the costumes were incredibly stylish. And, of course, the most important part of this work is the choreography. Mukaram Avakhri's plastic discoveries in crowd scenes and lyrical duets are imbued with beauty and aesthetics, and the simplicity of movements contrasts with their fullness, which gives the images special expressiveness.

The main roles will be performed by: Ot Kyz - Darina Kayrasheva, Mergen - Erkanat Ermagambet, Mergen the Marmot - Artemy Seyalov, Spirit of the Wind - Weslley Carvalho, Goddess of the Moon - Riza Kanatkyzy, Goddess of the Sun - Aigerim Kelemedenova.

The event will be held with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
