On April 1 and 2, the premiere of the ballet “Falling Angels” by the genius of modern dance Jiří Kylián to the music of Steve Reich will take place at the Astana Ballet Theatre. The talented choreographer Stefan Zeromski staged the ballet, included in the program “Black and White Ballets”, which has been shown on the best stages of the world for more than 30 years, on the capital's stage.
For the first time, one of the most famous works of the Czech choreographer-philosopher, who risked encroaching on the canons of academic ballet and creating his own unique style, will be shown in the capital. Once, when asked if he would like to stage a classical ballet, he replied: “No, I prefer to write my own poetry.” That is Jiří Kylián all over in this phrase. He is a venturesome experimenter, a daring innovator, and a deep thinker. His works have long been considered masterpieces of modern choreography, and famous theatres compete for the right to include Kylián’s performances in their repertoire.
“My acquaintance with the creative work of Jiří Kylián began with “Falling Angels”. When I first saw this ballet, it won my admiration and indescribable delight. I could not even imagine that such a thing was possible! Every dancer dreams of performing his ballets. I am very glad that our Kazakhstani audience will soon be able to see this production performed by talented artists of our theatre,” said Nurlan Kanetov, artistic director of the Astana Ballet Theatre.
The symbiosis of Jiří Kylián’s choreography and Steve Reich’s drum composition resulted in a delightful flight of eight ballerinas. The choreographer himself says the following words about his ballet: “Falling Angels is a ballet about our profession.” It is worth noting that his work is distinguished by extraordinary musicality, monochrome aesthetics, and world-class level of performance. Kylián’s ballet is a whirlwind of emotions: it gives shivers from sensuality and amazing plasticity.
In the second part of the evening, admirers of choreographic art will be presented with the sensational premiere of 2021 - the “Arcana of Fate” ballet, the music and libretto for which were created by the famous Kazakhstani singer Karina Abdullina, Honoured Figure of Kazakhstan. The ballet was choreographed by Mukaram Avakhri, the chief choreographer of the Astana Ballet Theatre, Honoured Figure of Kazakhstan.
This is a truly unique project in the world of art, since the arcana of fate from the Tarot system, which has existed for more than two thousand years, have never been displayed in any musical or choreographic production.
The event will be held with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
