Autumn is the time of the main theatrical premieres. The list of the most anticipated and spectacular performances of this season at the Astana Ballet Theatre includes “The Capriccio for piano and Orchestra” (“Rubies”) by George Balanchine and “The Arcana of Fate” staged by Mukaram Avakhri. They both will be presented to the capital public on November 27 and 28, accompanied by the symphony orchestra of the Theatre under the direction of conductor Arman Urazgaliyev. This is the ideal form of a ballet evening: the productions that are completely different in style and artistic solutions will not allow anyone to stay indifferent.
The first section will feature a one-act ballet without a subject named “The Capriccio for Piano and Orchestra” by George Balanchine, one of the parts of the “Jewels” performance that adorns the repertoires of the world’s leading theatres. The world premiere took place on stage of the New York City Ballet in 1967. Outstanding choreographer, the main figure of the world ballet of the 20th century, George Balanchine, being inspired by the design of “Van Cleef & Arpels” jewellery, created a ballet about precious gems, in which he elegantly expressed his life story and love for all stages of his creative career.
“The Capriccio for Piano and Orchestra” to the music of Igor Stravinsky is a vivid and dynamic ballet with fantastic energy. The action is characterized by emotional intensity, and shines with all facets of fiery passion. The ballet, prepared in collaboration with the George Balanchine Trust and implemented in accordance with the standards of style and techniques, is staged by an American choreographer Paul Boos.
Later, admirers of high art will be able to enjoy “The Arcana of Fate” one-act ballet, the music for which was written by the famous Kazakhstani singer Karina Abdullina, Honoured figure of Kazakhstan. The choreographer of the performance is Mukaram Avakhri, Honoured figure of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Chief Choreographer of the Astana Ballet Theatre.
“The Arcana of Fate” ballet consists of twenty-two fascinating separate stories framed in modern choreography, which come together to form a scenic whole. The arcana system contains a colourful and comprehensive picture of the world; metaphorical images reveal human nature.
“This is my performance, that we are releasing the same evening with the production by George Balanchine, which is also exciting and honourable for me. The incidental music to “The Arcana of Fate” performance was created by the Kazakhstani composer Karina Abdullina, in fact, the idea of this performance belongs to Karina. I fell in love with this music from the first time, it shows the archetypes of people very vividly and figuratively for me. I think that the uniqueness of this performance lies in the fact that these images are more than 2000 years old and to the present day they have not been displayed either in a musical or choreographic art form. Therefore, we are looking forward to you and inviting you,” - the choreographer expressed hope for the audience.
The premieres will be held with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture and Sports as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Performances start at 6 pm on November 27 and 28. Ticket sales for the premieres have already begun and are carried out only online on the Theatre’s website.
