On March 4 and 5, on the eve of the International Women’s Day, a grand gala concert will be held at the Astana Ballet Theatre, which promises the audience a lot of revelations and vivid impressions. Admirers of choreographic art will have a chance to enjoy the masterpieces of world ballet classics, neoclassics, and modern choreography. Such an evening is ideal for both regular spectators who want to immerse themselves in the best moments of their favourite performances in one evening, and for the first acquaintance with the theatre’s productions.
As part of the gala concert, the premiere of Pas d’action from La Bayadere ballet by Marius Petipa to the music of Ludwig Minkus staged by Maira Kadyrova will take place. The Astana Ballet Theatre turns to this complex and expressive form for the first time. A solemn and beautiful scene from La Bayadere ballet allows the dancers of the theatre to demonstrate virtuoso technique, high performing skills, and excellent acting talents. Contemporaries noted that in “Pas d’action” Petipa achieved miracles of choreographic art.
On March 18-19, the legendary love poem “Kozy Korpesh – Bayan Sulu” staged by choreographer Heorhii Kovtun to the music of Aktoty Raimkulova will be presented to the capital’s audience. This ballet premiered in July 2021 and was incredibly warmly appreciated by the public, receiving a huge number of enthusiastic reviews. Spectacular scenography, classical, folk, and modern dances are organically combined with bright musical images in this national ballet.
The choreographer himself admits that for the first time the theme of evil in his ballet is solved so ambiguously: “Evil is usually very easily embodied on stage, it is bright, and it can be drawn in large strokes, with one paint. And it always turns out to be a strong and memorable image. In this situation, everything is not so univocal. I think the audience will empathize with evil in the image of a young wolf.”
By the way, on March 25 and 26 there will be a gala concert named “the Heritage of the Great Steppe” staged by Honoured Figures of Kazakhstan Aigul Tati and Mukaram Avakhri with the participation of the “Hassak” ethnic and folk music group, which is represented by laureates of international and republican competitions, students and graduates of the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory. The choreographic miniatures beloved by the audience represent a wealth of folk traditions, fascinating dancing pieces, expressive music, unique artistic images, and a variety of plastique movements.
The events will be held with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
