New season in the Astana Ballet Theatre

In September, a new theatrical season starts at the Astana Ballet Theatre, and the capital's collective will present an eventful program: the audience will be shown their favorite productions and premiere performances. The events will be held with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture and Sport as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

On September 9-10, at 7:30 pm, the “Sultan Baibars” ballet in two acts will be shown, revealing the chapters of life of the Sultan of Syria and Egypt, staged by the chief choreographer of the theatre Mukaram Avakhri. The fate of a man who was destined to go through a difficult path from a hired warrior (a Mamluk) to a powerful ruler is amazing and contradictory. According to the choreographer, the emphasis is laid on the feelings and experiences of the main character, his memories of childhood, family, mother, and nostalgic love for the Motherland - the Kipchak steppe.

Spectacular mass scenes and gorgeous costumes give the performance the features of a large-scale historical canvas, immersing the audience into the magical atmosphere of the east. The idea of staging a ballet on a historical topic belongs to the “Fund for the Development and Support of Ballet and National Dance” with the assistance of the General Partner – “Samruk-Kazyna” JSC.

On September 17, at 7:30 pm, the audience will be presented with the famous ballet named “The Legend of Love” by the outstanding choreographer of our time Yuri Grigorovich to the music of Arif Melikov. Oriental zest, deep philosophical undertone, a dramatic love triangle, perfect choreography and incredibly beautiful mass scenes will appear before the audience as one whole stage action.

The plot, as it pertains to an oriental legend, is elegant and simple. Two sisters - Mekhmene Banu and Shirin - passionately fall in love with the court artist Ferkhad. Shirin wins the heart of a beautiful young man, and mutual love is impossible for Queen Mekhmene Banu: she sacrificed her fabulous beauty to save the life of her younger sister. A bitter trial is waiting for the lovers who have escaped from the palace, and Ferkhad sacrifices his love for the sake of saving the people.

The “Heritage of the Great Steppe” national divertissement will be performed by the Astana Ballet Theatre on October 16. The concert program, consisting of the best examples of national choreography staged by Kazakhstani choreographers, harmoniously combines ethnographic elements and modern choreographic solutions, as well as vivid images and interesting drama.

It is worth noting that the premiere performance staged by Ksenia Zvereva will take place soon with the participation of the Dior French Fashion House. An exciting ballet is about one of the most fascinating and inspiring stories from the fashion world – the life of the famous fashion designer Christian Dior.  This is a story about dreams, passion and determination, creativity and fate.

All events are held in strict compliance with sanitary and epidemiological requirements, according to which the number of spectators in the auditorium does not exceed 30% of the total number of seats, as well as with the mandatory wearing of medical masks and keeping social distance.
