In January, the Astana Ballet Theater invites viewers to enjoy exciting performances, ingenious compositions and a high level of performance. The capital's troupe will begin the New Year with a large-scale production of "The Snow Queen", which was awarded the Umai Prize in the category "Best Children's Performance". In addition, the theater’s playbill includes a concert by the symphony orchestra “The Mad Genius of Romanticism” and the play “Cinderella.”
From January 10 to 13, connoisseurs of high art will be presented with a magnificent New Year's fairy tale for family viewing with interesting directorial and artistic solutions, “The Snow Queen” in the choreography of G. Kovtun to the music of R. Salimov, which since its premiere in December 2022 has become one of the most anticipated events in the cultural life of the capital. The ballet, which always attracts full houses and has captivated the audience with its enchanting plot, mesmerizing choreography and large-scale decorations, will be accompanied by the theater's symphony orchestra under the direction of maestro Elmar Buribayev.
“An abundance of crowd scenes, a mixture of different styles of dance vocabulary, a large amount of rigid scenery and props that move and are played out during the action - these staging techniques are present in the ballet “The Snow Queen.” The performance really turned out to be large-scale - we needed more than 200 costumes and eight scenery changes. In addition, almost the entire theater troupe and young students of the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography are involved in it,” noted the artistic director of the theater Nurlan Kanetov.
On different days, the main roles will be performed by artists of the Astana Ballet Theater: Sundet Sultanov and Nazerke Aimukhametova, Erkanat Ermagambet and Anara Dukiyeva, Riza Kanatkyzy.
It is worth noting that on January 20 there will be a concert of the symphony orchestra “The Mad Genius of Romanticism” under the direction of maestro Elmar Buribayev. The program includes the famous cello concerto and the Third Rhine Symphony. From the performer, Schumann's famous cello concerto requires high skill, expressive “singing” on the instrument and a warm heart. Soloist Ermek Kurmanayev, a laureate of republican and international competitions, whose talent was applauded by audiences around the world, has all this in abundance.
About this movement, which is usually associated with the composer’s impression of the Cologne Cathedral, Tchaikovsky wrote: “Nothing more powerful, nothing more profound has ever come from the artistic creativity of man... One page of the great musician, inspired by the majestic beauties of the cathedral, will constitute for future generations the same unfading monument of depth the human spirit, like the cathedral itself."
And at the end of the January magic, on January 26 and 27, the theater invites spectators to the ballet “Cinderella” choreographed by N. Kalinina. The magnificent music of Sergei Prokofiev will be performed by the theater's symphony orchestra under the direction of conductor-producer Arman Urazgaliyev. On the theater stage, the plot of the well-known fairy tale about a poor girl who magically becomes first a beautiful guest at a royal ball, and later a real princess, will unfold. The story told by Charles Perrault is perfectly suited for ballet: it contains extraordinary transformations, a court ball, a poetic love story and an all-conquering good ending.
The events will take place with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
