Grand tour of the Astana Ballet Theatre in Almaty

From May 6 to 28, the company of the Astana Ballet Theatre will perform on the stage of the new “ALMATY THEATRE”. The capital’s company has prepared a unique multi-genre show bill for the Almaty audience, which will become an exquisite treat on the menu of theatrical gourmets of the cultural capital of Kazakhstan.

On May 6, the capital’s collective will open its tour with the “Evening of One-act Ballets” accompanied by the symphony orchestra of the theatre. The first part will feature the ballet “Serenade” by G. Balanchine to the music of P. Tchaikovsky. Although the premiere of this ballet took place in 1934, “Serenade” is still spoken of as perfection, “the absolute of dance musicality, picturesqueness and emotionality,” where choreography is inseparable from music. The ballet by G. Balanchine was prepared in collaboration with the George Balanchine Trust and executed in accordance with the standards of style and technique
The second part of the evening will feature a unique ballet “The Arcana of Fate” staged by Mukaram Avakhri to the music of Karina Abdullina. This ballet has no analogues in the whole world. Each piece of the ballet is a separate small composition that tells about amazing characters - the Major Arcana of the ancient Tarot card system.
On May 14 and 15, the gem of romantic epic stories will be shown – the ballet “Kozy Korpesh - Bayan Sulu” staged by Heorhii Kovtun to the music of Aktoty Raimkulova. This is a touching and breathtaking story that has become a great legend. The fusion of the national language of dance with both classical ballet and modern technique allowed the authors and the dancers to create a performance with a special national flair. The evening will be accompanied by the symphony orchestra of the theatre.

On May 18, the symphony concert “Almatyma Arnau” will be held under the direction of maestro Arman Urazgaliyev. In this concert, the wonderful musicians of the symphony orchestra of the theatre will perform splendid music and introduce other, sometimes unexpected, sides of the genius of great composers. The first part will feature such works as “Dudarai” by Evgeny Brusilovsky and Concerto for Violin and Orchestra D-dur by Johannes Brahms. The laureate of international competitions, laureate of the Foundation of the First President Kalamkas Jumabayeva will perform as a soloist. The second part will feature Symphony No. 7 A-dur by Ludwig van Beethoven.

On May 21 and 22, the cogitation ballet “Sultan Baybars” staged by Mukaram Avakhri will be presented. The idea of staging a ballet on a historical theme belongs to the “Foundation for the Development and Support of Ballet and National Dance” with the assistance of the General Partner – “Samruk-Kazyna” JSC.
“This is an offer to imagine together with the spectators what the famous “father of victories” could remember in the decline of years. After all, his life was full of quintessential events: battles with the Crusaders, and Mongol raids. Perhaps there was something much more significant than the events known to us as the cold facts of history,” says choreographer Mukaram Avakhri.
On May 27 and 28, “The Heritage of the Great Steppe” concert program will take place, accompanied by the ethnic and folk music group “HasSak”. The audience’s favourite choreographic miniatures staged by Honoured Figures of Kazakhstan Aigul Tati and Mukaram Avakhri represent a wealth of traditions, a statement of beauty, and a secret of charm. Each miniature will leave a deep impression owing to expressive music, unique artistic images, and various plastique movements.

The Astana Ballet Theatre is quite well-known to the Almaty audience. Every few years, the collective presents its new premieres and the best productions here. The performance of the ballet company of the theatre is always a great event in the cultural life of the southern capital. Every time the tour of the capital’s artists causes a commotion, and now admirers from Almaty have a new opportunity to enjoy ballet art and symphonic music.
