Kazakhstan will host a tour of the Theater on Bronnaya from October 28 to 30, 2021. The performance of Sasha Denisova «The Bat Man against Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev» will be played in Nur-Sultan on the stage of Astana Ballet Theater.
The plot of the play is a fantasy about what a Bat Man would do in the USSR, in the era of stagnation, if he was a Soviet citizen. The comic book hero lives in the USSR and hides under the guise of one of the millions of Soviet citizens, a modest writer Dudochkin. Under the cover of night, Tolya Dudochkin spreads his dark wings, punishes the villains of the stagnant Gotham City on his upgraded Zhiguli, protects ordinary Soviet people, wears flared jeans and, of course, finds his true love.
Director of the Theater on Bronnaya Elena Mironenko: «The Theater on Bronnaya is going on tour outside of Russia for the first time during this difficult period of the pandemic. In Kazakhstan, we are planning three performances of an extremely popular play, the premiere of 2021 – «The Bat Man against Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev» directed by Sasha Denisova. I hope that the residents and guests of Nur-Sultan will appreciate this bright and extraordinary performance, and we will look forward to meeting with the audience at the end of October!».
Director of the Astana Ballet Theater Alexander Sevastyanov: «This is the first tour of the Theater on Bronnaya in Kazakhstan, and we are glad that it will take place at the Astana Ballet Theater. The original performance by Sasha Denisova is an ironic look at the Brezhnev’s era through the eyes of a man of the XXI century. There are a lot of things in the play which are well known from Soviet times – songs, movies, items and other things which will surely find a response in the hearts of the widest audience. Anticipating the question of the reason why we’ve chosen this particular performance I’ll say that we want to give our audience new sensations, emotions and the unique experience of visiting our theater».
The play is performed by: Sergey Epishev, Olga Lapshina, Maria Shumakova, Lina Mirimskaya, Alexandra Vinogradova, Lina Veselkina, Andrey Subbotin, Sergey Kizas, Dmitry Guryanov, Dmitry Varshavsky, Alexander Nikulin, Vladimir Yavorsky and Dmitry Tsursky.
The shows start: October 28, 29 at 7:30 pm and October 30 at 6:00 pm, Nur-Sultan, Astana Ballet Theater.
For reference: The Theater on Bronnaya is a drama theater in Moscow founded in March 1945. The first director was Sergey Mayorov. Directors worked in the theater in different years: A. Efros, E. Lazarev, V. Portnov, S. Zhenovach, A. Zhitinkin. The Honored Artist of the USSR Lev Durov has been the main director of the theater from 2003 to 2006. In 2007-2019 the theater was managedby Sergey Golomazov, whose stage productions were recognized by the audience, critics and theater awards. The Theater on Bronnaya opened its 74th season with the new art director-Konstantin Bogomolov, who was appointed to this position in June 2019. The theater invited talented young directors to cooperate, interesting creative projects are being implemented, thanks to the newly created Fund for the Support and Development of the Modern Theater named after Solomon Mikhoels.
