The Astana Ballet Theatre presents a program of one-act ballets combining the premiere of the “Carmen Suite” ballet and the “Orpheus and Eurydice” ballet.
“Carmen Suite” is a unique gem of the ballet art of the XX century. The life story of the freedom-loving, flamboyant and passionate Carmen is a source of inspiration for many choreographers, and the best ballerinas aspire to dance this part.
The choreographic interpretation of Georges Bizet’s famous opera “Carmen” was created especially for the magnificent Maya Plisetskaya. The musical transcription on the opera’s themes was created by composer Rodion Shchedrin, who worked on the score with incredible passion. He managed to achieve true virtuosity in conveying through music the finest psychological nuances of the great opera and the novella by Prosper Mérimée. Due to the bright and extraordinary choreography by Cuban choreographer Alberto Alonso, brilliantly conveying the feelings and aspirations of the characters, “Carmen Suite” has become a favourite ballet for many admirers of dance art and has become the heritage of the best theatre stages.

“Orpheus and Eurydice” is a choreographic interpretation of the myth of Ancient Greece in the neoclassical style with elements of modernity. This love story has been of interest to people of art down the ages.
In the ballet, the choreographer answers philosophical and spiritual questions about the meaning of life and the immortality of love and the soul, praises the sincerity of feelings, the supremacy of the power of love and art. Her Orpheus is a famous writer, and Eurydice, his beloved one, is his muse and a source of inspiration.
The stage costumes reflect the symbolism of the myth, and the scenery includes uneven mirror geometric images resembling mountains. What is happening on stage will grip the attention of the audience with an interesting plot, will attract all attention to the powerful impulse that comes from the dancers.
